Custody of Lucy - The Young and the Restless

Lucy is the offspring of Daniel Romalotti and Daisy Carter.

To my knowledge Daisy is not dead. She clobbered Daniel over the head at the side of a road and took off.

What I don’t understand is why Lucy is living with Heather. Since Daisy isn’t dead, Heather couldn’t have adopted Lucy. So there is no legal connection between Heather and Lucy other than being the wife of Lucy’s father.

By the sounds of it, when Heather leaves to go back to Portugal, she will be taking Lucy back with her.

That’s a good point. Could she have adopted her if Daisy had her parental rights severed?

I don’t ever recall Daniel and Heather getting married. I know he moved to Georgia to be with her and of course, took Lucy with him.

Daisy did give up her parental rights, but Phyllis helped her get them back so that she could get custody of Lucy away from Billy and Victoria.

Daniel tried to get full custody of Lucy from Daisy but failed to, so he married Daisy.

Ricky Williams claimed to have killed Daisy.

When Sharon was admitted to Fairview, she was shocked to see Daisy there. Daisy overdoses on pills, so she can be admitted to the hospital. Daisy disappears soon after when someone claiming to be her mother came to get her.

I like Lucy and Heather. Would like to see them stick around, especially Lucy. That way it would not be a total loss for Daniel. Lucy could help Daniel with his game.

Daniel and Heather aren’t married. They never said whether Heather adopted Lucy. Heather isn’t staying, but I think Lucy is.

I think they go married off screen.

Maybe Lucy will want to stay in GC. Hopefully the parental information will be explained.

Yes I definitely hope it is explained.

I think Daniel is still married to Daisy Carter (Thankfully AWOL crazy character). Unless if Daisy was found at some point to be non compos mentis or Daniel divorced her due to abandonment (my speculation), Heather has no custodial rights. Lucy legally is still Daniel’s child.

Which leads to the question: What depraved hole in the ground did Daniel dive into that caused Heather and Lucy to flee to Portugal?

He might be, it’s difficult to really say.

He was married to her when Ricky Williams claimed to have killed her. So if he had really killed her then Daniel would be a widower.

However Daisy was in Fairview when Sharon was admitted. Daisy overdosed so she could get to a hospital where it seems her mother helped her escape.

The question is was anyone else aware besides Sharon, that Daisy was alive and in Fairview and that she escaped from a hospital? I can’t remember if that was addressed or not.

Everyone of these questions in this thread have been bouncing around in my brain since Daniel came back to Genoa City. It’s so frustrating. How hard can it be to throw some explanations in their script? If things are happening “off screen” then please let them at least refer to said happening. As much as I’d like to see Lucy stay (I think this actress could bring on the drama of the broken character of Lucy) I don’t think the writers and producers want someone around calling Phyllis “Grandma!”

I don’t think so either. In fact I’m extremely shocked that they brought Daniel back.

Even though Michelle Stafford is 57 years old, the character of Phyllis that she portrays is about 10 years older.

By bringing Daniel back, with a tween, gone is the illusion that Phyllis is still in her 50s.

Good for her because she looks fantastic.

So Phyllis is supposed to be 67 years old on the show? I had no idea.

She’s Jack’s age. She had Daniel when she was in her early twenties. Daniel was 18 when Summer was born. Summer is late twenties. That makes Daniel mid-40s. Add early twenties to that and that brings Phyllis to late 60s.

The actress is 57 but that doesn’t mean the character is that same age. Based on the age of her kids and her age when she had them makes the character about 10 years older than the actress in the role.

It’s not uncommon for an actor to portray a character older or younger than they are.

  • The actress cast as Lucy is 16 portraying a 13-year-old.

  • The actress that was portraying Shawna was 21 years old portraying a 17 year old.

  • The actor playing Tucker McCall is 51 years old. Tucker is 67 years old. The exact same age as Jill. They share the same birthday.

  • Google all of the actors in Grease. Most of them are in their late twenties and even early 30s portraying high school graduates aged 17 and 18 years old.

The Beverly Hillbillies and The Golden Girls had actresses that were far younger than their characters.

So the age of the actor in the role really doesn’t mean anything. What matters is the character.

And are you going to be able to look at Phyllis and think she is 67? I’m not even going to try to do that. I couldn’t care less how old Daniel is. Phyllis is in her late 50s. The average age difference between a parent and their adult child on a soap is 8 or 9 years.

I agree that the exact ages don’t matter, but usually actors use make up or wardrobe to make it more believable ( Like Sophia on Golden Girls) . Y&R has no budget, so we rely on the actor. It’s is sometimes hard for me to imagine. I struggle to see Tucker as the father of Devon, even though he is a good actor. Lucy is a pretty young woman, but I can’t see age 13.
I must be kind of weird that way  I saw Grease at age 7 and at that I knew Rizzo was not a teen ( and Stockard Channing is an amazing actress!) It bothered me back then which is kind of funny. I also have this thing where I pick up when people are using the wrong accent for their character, Clearly, I have watched too many movies in my life.
